At any point of time there is a need for humanitarian aid in sime place in the world. The need could resuld from war, severe weather or natural disasters, such as storms, floods or earthquakes. For example, the recent conflicts in Rwanda and Bosnia-Herzegovia have created an urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
In most major international crisis, om organization usually is present. It is the Red Cross. The main goal of the Red Cross is to prevent and ease human suffering. In most countries, the organization has an international sign. It is a cross of red. In Muslim countries it is the sign of a res crescent, a half shaped moon. Iran and Israel use other signs.
However, each Red Cross and Red Crescent Society has the same goals. The international Red Cross operates in war areas. The national societies generally work in areas that suffer natural disasters. The international Red Cross was established by a Swiss businessman named Jean Henri Dunant.
